Stuzzi – Fall from grace! Don’t waste your time

I appreciate the basil leaf.
I appreciate the basil leaf.

It turned out to be a beautiful day after all. While walking on Cary Street, on a whim we decided to check out Stuzzi since we hadn’t been there for over a year. It was around 5:30 pm so it wasn’t packed at all. There were about 7 servers (nobody over 24) each one trying to outdo the other one when it came to unprofessionalism. Thankfully, the dirty old man (owner) was not around.

Kobe jumbo meatball with ricotta ($10) was pretty decent. For the Focaccia bread ($4), they use the same pizza dough – just season it with rosemary, black pepper, oregano and EVOO. It was pretty good. And then came the pizza. The highly acclaimed Margherita Reale. We were speechless when we saw it and even more so after eating it. They don’t use San Marzano tomatoes, the mozzarella is average, there was one basil leaf on the pizza, the middle of the pizza is thin and watery so it disintegrated, the cherry tomatoes have no taste. There were 2 mexican guys making the pizza. Yeah – that’s exactly what I expect from a restaurant that claims to have an authentic neapolitan pizza that’s the best. An appropriate name for the pizza would be Soggy Bottom pizza.

I don’t think we will be going back again!
